After School Class Fridays

Hello Strawtown Families!

As the beautiful Marydell landscape turns from green to gold, we are excitedly planning for the fall class adventures with your children!

We are so happy you’ll be joining us. Classes will begin Friday, October 2nd.

Please read carefully below and let us know if you have any questions.

Class Details:

Dates: 8 consecutive Fridays, October 2 – November 20

Time: 4pm – 6pm

Where: Under the Tent at Marydell, 640 North Midland Avenue, Nyack, NY 10960

Who: Classes will be led by Laurie Seeman, Founding Director and Joanna Dickey, Program Director , along with educator Natalie Russell. Strawtown apprentices may also be on hand to observe and help out.

Parking & Arrival: Please park at the 3rd gate field, down Larchdale Ave, and walk your child up to the welcome tent.

Safety: We will run a temperature check-in for each participant at arrival.
Masks are required and sanitizer will be on hand for use throughout the program.
See policies below, and let us know ASAP if your situation has changed regarding exposure to COVID19.

Outdoor Weather Preparedness:

If it rains during class we will move under the tent on the great lawn. If there is thunder/lightning, will move the class into the Dining Hall with the option for parents to pick-up early.
(Please Note: The Dining Hall is a large space. The max # allowed with social distancing is 40 people).

Please be sure to enter Joanna and Laurie’s cell numbers into your phone for last minute texts, and if you decide to pick up early. Joanna: 845-596-8171, Laurie: 845-558-0877.

What to Wear:

All children must be dressed for full-on outdoor experiences!
Since this is an all outdoor class, and the days will get colder, wetter, and shorter, class requires:

  • Warm layers (thermal underwear when needed)
  • Waterproof footwear (hiking boots, rubber boots, please no sandals)
  • Waterproof outerwear
  • All gear should be able to get dirty, wet, or stained
  • Masks are required

With regret, we cannot provide smocks or extra clothing as we have in the past.
If your small person doesn’t want to wear it on arrival, please have it packed in a bag with their name clearly labeled outside. (Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!)

And please keep in mind each week as you prepare that the whole class is only as comfortable or as happy as our least happy classmate.

What to Bring:

  • Water bottle

PLUS your child’s personal art supply kit with your child’s name on it that will remain at the
studio during the full 8-week session.

This kit should include:

  • scissors
  • 2 or more graphite pencils with erasers
  • pencil sharpener
  • color pencils (water color pencils preferably if you have them)
  • crayons
  • markers
  • glue stick
  • a closable case/box to secure them in. This personal kit can be made fun with pictures of pets, or a beautiful ribbon. It will be handled in a sanitary fashion, stored securely, and set out for your child each week.

If you have siblings attending, they can share the art supply kit, but please plan ahead and be sure there are enough of each tool inside for each of them.

All other materials (paper, wire, strings, fabrics, etc.) will be provided by Strawtown, and by Nature! Materials will be prepared days ahead.

Also, we welcome you to join your child on these weekly adventures! Please schedule ahead of time with us if you would like to join a class with your child. You can reach out to Kris to book a day.

Thank you for joining us this Fall and we look forward to the adventures ahead!

All the Best,
The Strawtown Team
